Our History

Definition Sports Massage was founded by owner Andrew Lopez in 2016 when he realized working for a spa was no longer for him. Andrew is passionate about massage and the benefits of massage but did not like the restrictions of working in a spa.

Andrew always had a passion for working with athletes and was fascinated  with the types of injuries that athletes encounter and how with a few techniques the injuries can be healed.

We are certified with the California Massage Therapy Council (CMTC) and have over 13 years of massage experience.

Definition Sports Massage Therapists have training in injury prevention, injury recovery, muscle manipulation, pre and post event, trigger point therapy, range of motion, active release techniques and lymphatic drainage.

Recovery Tools

Floss band

An essential performance tool to improve range of motion, restore joint mechanics, and also helps previously injured tissue. The band decreases blood and oxygen flow to the wrapped area to increase friction between the muscles and tendons in order to break down scar tissue.

Cupping therapy

Uses special cups on the skin for a few minutes to create suction to draw out toxins from a specific area. Cupping helps with pain, inflammation, blood flow, relaxation and well-being. Cupping is a type of deep-tissue massage.

Percussion Therapy

A percussion gun used for the muscles to aid with the recovery process. Percussion therapy helps to break down knots, increase blood flow, and release stored lactic acid.

IASTM and RockTape

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization

A form of manual therapy that uses instruments with a specialized form of massage/scraping the skin gently. The general goals of the therapy are to reduce pain and increase function through a combination of:

  • Breaking down the scar tissue and fascia restrictions that are usually associated with some form of trauma to the soft tissue.
  • Reducing restrictions by stretching connective tissue in an attempt to rearrange the structure of the soft tissue being treated

  • Reduces pain- RockTape on the skin can interfere with painful signals which are directed to the brain
  • Decompresses an area of swelling and inflammation- RockTape has a microscopic lifting effect underneath the skin and between the many layers. This allows the by-products created by inflammation to be removed more quickly.
  • Delays fatigue- In rehab, this is very important, not only for the parts of your body that are currently hurting, but also for the surrounding areas as they help to pick up the slack for muscles that are currently not working well.
  • Distributes physical stress- RockTape allows full movement of a taped area.  Through elastic properties and quick recoil, RockTape can help distribute forces to other nearby areas through the fascia, ligaments, and even bones.

Normatec Compression Therapy

What is Compression Therapy and it's Benefits?

Compression Therapy is the leader in rapid recovery! NORMATEC systems give a competitive edge to the world’s elite athletes, coaches, and trainers. The goal is to establish recovery as an integral part of every athlete’s training, we feel NormaTec systems are the best way to accomplish that. These dynamic compression devices are designed for recovery and rehab. All of our systems use NormaTec's patented PULSE technology to help athletes recover faster between trainings and after performance.

Our systems include a control unit and attachments which go on the legs, arms, or hips. They use compressed air to massage your limbs, mobilize fluid, and speed recovery with our patented NormaTec Pulse Massage Pattern. When you use our systems, you will first experience a pre-inflate cycle, during which the connected attachments are molded to your exact body shape. The session will then begin by compressing your feet, hands, or upper quad (depending on which attachment you are using). Similar to the kneading and stroking done during a massage, each segment of the attachment will first compress in a pulsing manner and then release. This will repeat for each segment of the attachment as the compression pattern works its way up your limb.
